    How to Enable and Use AirPlay on iPad [TV & Mac]

    What We Know

    • AirPlay from iPad to Apple TV: Enable AirPlay → Play content → Tap AirPlay icon → Choose Apple TV/Smart TV → Enter AirPlay passcode → Stream on TV.
    • AirPlay from iPad using Control Center: Enable AirPlay → Play a title on iPad → Open Control Center → Screen Mirroring → Select Apple TV/Smart TV → Enter AirPlay code → Watch on TV.
    • AirPlay from iPad to Mac: Enable AirPlay Receiver → Play content → Click AirPlay icon → Choose your Mac → Watch content on Mac.
    • AirPlay from iPad to Android TV: Enable AirPlay → Play content → Tap AirPlay icon/ Control Center > Screen Mirroring → Choose Android TV → Enter AirPlay code → Stream on TV.

    iPad is a useful device for reading books, surfing the internet, watching movies, playing games, and more. Being an iPad user, you can prefer watching any content on a bigger screen using AirPlay. Hence, you can share your iPad screen with Mac, Apple TV, or other AirPlay 2-compatible TV. You can also screen mirror your iPad to the TV if you could not find the AirPlay icon on the app.

    How to AirPlay from iPad to Apple TV/Smart TV

    You should enable AirPlay on your Apple TV before you get into the steps. Go to Settings > AirPlay & HomeKit settings > Turn ON the AirPlay.

    1. Initially, connect your iPad and Apple TV/Smart TV to the same WiFi network.

    2. From your iPad, choose a video you want to play on TV.

    3. Click the AirPlay icon at the top right corner of the screen.

    Note: In some apps, you must click on Share icon Share and choose AirPlay icon on iPad AirPlay. If the icon was not found, you can try the next method.

    4. Select your Smart TV or Apple TV from the list of available devices.

    Great! The selected video will start playing on your TV. Simply, turn OFF the AirPlay on your iPad to stop sharing content with your TV.

    In some apps, if you tap the AirPlay icon on iPad AirPlay icon, it will automatically connect to the frequently used device. Therefore, if you want to stream on a different device, click on AirPlay icon on iPad AirPlay and select another device.

    How to AirPlay from iPad to TV Using Control Center

    Some app does not have the built-in AirPlay feature so you can screen mirror your iPad screen to watch the content on your TV.

    1. Connect your iPad and AirPlay 2 compatible device (Smart TV/Apple TV) to the same WiFi network.

    2. Go to the Control Center on your iPad.

    3. Click on the Screen Mirroring option.

    4. Select the name of your TV from the list of devices.

    5. You would receive an AirPlay code on your TV screen, enter the code on your iPad.

    6. Now, it will mirror the iPad screen on your TV.

    Note: If you want to turn off AirPlay, go to the Control Center > Screen Mirroring > Stop Mirroring.

    How to AirPlay from iPad to Mac

    If you have macOS Monterey 12 or above, you can mirror your entire iPad screen to the Mac. First, enable AirPlay Receiver on your Mac to receive the audio and video files or photos from your iPad.

    How to Setup Mac to Enable AirPlay

    1. From your Mac, click on the Apple icon Apple menu and select System Settings.

    2. Click General settings in the sidebar and scroll down to choose AirDrop & Handoff.

    3. Turn on the AirPlay Receiver.

    4. Click on the Allow AirPlay for option.

    • Choose the Current user to allow the same Apple ID device.
    • Choose Anyone on the same network or Everyone to allow others.

    5. Turn on Require password and enter a password in the field if you wish to set a password before using AirPlay.

    How to Screen Mirror from iPad to Mac

    1. First of all, play a video on your iPad and simply tap the screen.

    2. Next, click on AirPlay icon on iPad AirPlay.

    3. Then select your Mac from the devices list.

    It will start playing the video on your Mac and iPad at the same time. Once finished streaming, disable the AirPlay receiver on your Mac.

    How to AirPlay from iPad to Android TV

    AirPlay could be enabled only on the selected Android TV models that are listed on the AirPlay compatible devices webpage. Luckily if your Android TV is AirPlay supported, enable AirPlay on your Android TV to proceed with the steps.

    1. Connect your iPad and the Android TV to the same WiFi network.

    2. Play the content that you wish to stream on your TV.

    3. Tap on the AirPlay icon on the media player. If you could not find the AirPlay icon, open Control Center on your iPad and select the Screen Mirroring option.

    4. Choose your Android TV from the list of available devices.

    5. Enter the AirPlay code on your iPad, which appears on your TV.

    Once connected, you can stream content on your TV. Once you finish streaming content from iPad to TV, disable AirPlay on your Mac.

    How to Fix AirPlay Not Working on iPad

    There are multiple reasons why AirPlay is not working on iPad. As a result, the screen might turn black, the app won’t stream audio or the video is unavailable. Here is what you should do to make it work.

    • Signal Blockage: Remove any obstacles that block the AirPlay signal between your Apple device or Smart TV. Bring your Apple device and the Smart TV to a reasonable distance.
    • Device incompatibility: Check whether your iPad and Smart TV are AirPlay supported.
    • Poor Internet connection: Check your network speed and signal. If the network was unstable, switch on to a stable network or restart the WiFi router.
    • Network connectivity: Make sure that your iPad and the Smart TV are connected to the same WiFi network.
    • Network traffic: Turn off the WiFi and Bluetooth on other devices to avoid interference on the indented devices.
    • Device audio: Ensure that the device’s audio is not muted and Level up the volumes in both the A and the Smart TV.
    • Airplane mode: Turn off the Airplane mode on your iPad, if it is turned on. This is because it might disable the WiFi. In some cases, mobile hotspots may affect the functionality of AirPlay.
    • Temporary malfunction: Restart your iPad and the Smart TV.
    • Outdated Firmware: Check if there are any updates available for both your iPad and Smart TV. If there is, update your iPad and the Smart TV.

    Is it possible to AirPlay without the internet?

    Yes, by using peer-to-peer AirPlay. First, enable Bluetooth and WiFi on both devices. Next, pair both devices with Bluetooth. Click the AirPlay icon and select your AirPlay-compatible device.

    How to update iPad Firmware?

    First back up your device and go to Settings > General > Software Update. Choose any update available and tap Install Now. Instead, if you see Download and Install, tap on it and enter your iPad passcode.
